Mark B. Sheppard is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. He has focused his practice on white collar criminal defense, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Enforcement and complex commercial civil litigation for over 30 years.
Mr. Sheppard has successfully represented corporations, publicly elected officials and individuals in matters involving federal, state, and administrative enforcement activity, including federal criminal trials, grand jury investigations, SEC enforcement actions and government initiated civil proceedings. He regularly counsels clients on conducting internal investigations and implementation of corporate compliance policies.
Mr. Sheppard also has a broad base of civil trial and appellate experience. He regularly represents parties in complex commercial matters, including actions grounded in fraud and in connection with other business torts. He has tried a number of cases in both state and federal courts and argued appeals before the Pennsylvania Supreme and Superior Courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Mr. Sheppard’s recent bankruptcy litigation experience includes: 1.) overseeing the investigation of and ultimately obtaining court approval to bring a $1.5 billion fraudulent conveyance/breach of fiduciary duty claim against the debtor’s multi-national parent, and 2.) co-leading trial counsel for asbestos creditor’s committee, resulting in a finding of estimated liability on the part of the debtor in excess of $1.1 billion.
Mr. Sheppard enjoys an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell and is listed in Best Lawyers in America. He has been recognized by his peers as a Pennsylvania Top 100 Super Lawyer, and was named “Best of the Bar: Philadelphia’s Top Lawyers” by Philadelphia Business Journal in 2017.
